This collection of paintings was created when I shared a studio on a wharf jutting out into Gloucester Harbor. The building was very old and industrial; it was a boat-building shop back in the early 1900s. The shapes and lines in my paintings from that period definitely reflect the structural elements of the building and the views of the docks, boats and harbor outside my window. While my paintings are purely abstract, I feel they all have a sense of place or object, which is where the titles came from. I never start a painting with a finished image in mind, and choose the title on completion. They all develop organically as I respond to each new addition or subtraction. I tend to add layer upon layer rather quickly, and then the process slows down as I reduce the image to a composition that just feels right.
Uncommon Prints is proud to offer this series of abstract paintings by Erin Miller. Canvas reproductions are available as a gallery wrap or in a black wood frame, dimensions and pricing listed at right.
